Here are the Christ-centred podcasts we’re currently listening to in our house. Do you have any others to add to the list?
Real Cool History for Kids
Angela O’Dell tells history stories that are requested by her listeners on topics from World War II to the Mt Saint Helen Eruption to the story of Esther. The core of the podcast is that the history stories she tells come from a distinctly Christian perspective. Currently, she lives in Minnesota with her husband and 4 children (Well, all of them have graduated and left except for her youngest child, who is a teen girl getting ready to go to college, according to Angela O’Dell in her episode of Bobbie the Wonder Dog #93).
Papa’s Bible Stories
Papa, who has two kids of his own, tells stories from the Bible in chronological order. Papa goes slowing and methodically telling each story, as though he’s telling it to his own kids. While there isn’t any dramatisation, like in other podcasts, the storytelling is still engaging and the story is usually wrapped up with a takeaway message.
Discovery Mountain
Discovery Mountain is a dramatised podcast with lots of sound effects, interesting characters and adventure that is produced by Voice of Prophecy, which has been here for 85+ years. It’s a fun way for kids to have a show that carries on from episode to episode, allowing them to build a relationship with the place and the people. In the end, the object of the podcast is to help kids get to know Jesus.
There are so many episodes in this podcast as it’s been recorded since 2017 and even had a special way, ipTDL to record from Colorado and Canada during the pandemic. If your kids are anything like my son, they’ll love going through this podcast’s catalogue trying to catch up with the story line.
Nature & Science 4 Kids
On the Nature and Science 4 Kids podcast they talk about plants and animals. My son’s favourite episode is the first episode of the podcast called “Tusk Fish”. The host, known as MooseJaw Matt is a teacher who has kids of his own and committed to presenting episodes about nature that are firmly rooted in biblical principles
Gigi Kids
Hosted by 5 Sisters Ministry, this podcast is hosted by sisters whose voices you come to know and love after listening to multiple episodes. They have an air of authenticity and genuineness that you’ll come to love and it helps that I’ve met them in person so I know that they’re coming from a beautiful place in their intentions. This podcast usually tells stories with a moral lesson and features the sisters adventures.
The podcast was initially aimed at girls so the earlier episodes in their catalogue speak specifically to girls, but over time, they saw that they were attracting boys and girls to their shows so they broadened their audience. Gigi Kids also has content aimed at Teen Girls, which can be found on their website.
